What is the What (Chapters 6-10)

I was right. I was so right. From what I gathered from the first few chapters with who Janie was I understood where she stood. When she first got married I could tell I wouldn't work out because she didn't love him. That was her main component in marriage love. Without love she felt something was missing. Thats why she ran off with Jody. She felt a connection and she was right there was one, but she barely knew him. So when she married him she had no idea what to expect. They enetered a course of marriage where he continously belittled her. One day she finally let him have it and he shunned her for the rest of the marriage til he died. They had the right idea but they needed more time to learn about each other. Anyway, now Tea Cakes is being introduced. I'm curious about him. Is he a crook or does he really fancy Janie?

Their Eyes Were Watching God (Chapters 1-5)

So when I picked up this book I had no idea what to expect. The book summary barely gave me a hint into what the book was about. So to say I was completely blind about the story. The book started off setting the story and how everything was. When chapter 2 began I was hooked. The book has begun but really hasn't so far. If you understand what I mean. I'm curious about what she is going to do about Jody. I'm sure he's nice but he sort of has her live like she has no rights. She is treated like a second class citizen to her husband and I know that she is not going to stand for this. Right? Guess I got to find out.

What is the What (Chapter 25 to the end)

You know a thought has come to mind. Achak has gone throught sadness and death since he was at least eight. I know he's safe now and has made it to America but I've been wondering, is he happy? Somebody who goes through what he has doesn't go through unaffected. The reason I question this is because he speaks negatives at times. For example, when he states "I'm cursed" after a series negative events. It all makes me wonder if he's happy with life. With how he turned out? Well I hope he ends up okay.

What is the What (Chapter 23 to 24)

You know what's really great about this book. Learning about the culture in Sudan. For one thing, the custom that on the night that a married man and woman plan to become intimate, three woman family members set the whiteset sheets down. After the man and wife have finished they take the sheet to show that the woman has bled this being her first time. Things are different here. I've never even heard of that being done in America. Also, the fact that when a girl recieves her period it means that she is officially a woman, which makes her officially on the market. In America you must wait til you at least 18 before you can get married. Its amazing how things are different in different places.

What is the What (Book 3 to the end of chapter 22 )

You want to know who another guardian angel was that guided Achak? Well it was Maria. She saved him when she told him to get up and keep walking. Back then he was ready to lay down and die but she whouldn't let him. I refuse to believe that he is cursed. He is always being saved. Plus what about Gop Chol. He became like a second father to Achak. That is what he needed because after he left Achor Achor I was glad he found someone else.

What is the What (Book 2)

Okay Ao I have finished Book 2. As I was reading this part I noticed how Valentino believes that he gets treated differently for things. As with the police visit, how they really didn't do a thing. Also, at the hospital how the front desk attendant named Julian. For some reason I don't really believe that he did all in his power to let him be admitted into the hospital. It was interesting to hear the story of how thinhs worked in camp. The story about how he worked to impress those three sisters was cute. It's nice to know that even in Sudan, boys still want to win the girls over. He worked pretty hard to impress them. When they had to run again, that was scary. Thank God for Dut. Even if Valentina, aka Achak, thinks that his life is cursed its not. He has guardian angels on his side out there to protect him. Thats why he made it to America. He was blessed. When they thought he was going to die he didn't. When he was blind his friends guided him. He was surrounded by a lot of death and sadness, but also a lot of goodness, faith, and hidden hope.

What is the What (Chapter 13 to the end of Book 1)

Okay, a lot of sadness and lost. Let me just say that I want to really cry right now. When William K died I was about to cry. I mean I know that it was going to happen because William K was never mentioned during the present part of the story. I know this is a story about his journey and I hive so much praise on telling this amazing and courageous story. I understand now why he sometimes says that he only gave the abridged version of the story. Some parts are hard to hear. I can't even imagine. Reaching the end of our story I wonder where we are now. I mean I realize that he's in a refugee camp, but I wonder how everybody is going to take it. I can't wait to find out what happens. Okay here I go...

What is the What (Chapters 10-12)

So I don't know what to really reflect on with these chapters. I can say that as for the whole Tonya, Powder, Michael scene I have no idea where this story is going. Yes, he is taking the audience on a journey on his life to America, but why didn't the story start their? What role could a robbery play into his story? I guess if he is making a point of a life in a America and how it's not exactly a dream come true. I guess that I'm lost in the story, which is that I need to keep reading to find out what happens, but I thought I should reflect my thoughts before continuing the story.

What is the What (Chapters 1-9)

Alright so this book is becoming so painful. Don't get me wrong I will still read it, but some scenes really hurt. What could cause anyone to do such a thing to people? Were not animals, but they are treating each other like it. Its heartbreaking. Even worse is the war that is centered in this story. Not even just the war that is causing Achak to run for his life, but also the war he finds in America. The war he is facing with the people he is meeting. I'm really curios about Michael and who he is. I feel like there is some greater importance with him that hasn't been identified yet. Hope to find out soon.
