What Is the What (Half of Chapter 1)

Okay so the reason I am only halfway through chapter 1 is because I am begining it on Barnes and Noble preview. The preview unfortunatley only features half of chapter 1. Anyways so far the book is...great! From the moment I read the first words I am hooked. Let me tell you that I am so curious to find out what is going to happen. The last I left off is when the main charater (I assume) has decided to take a little rest on the couch and is talking about how much he misses home. I can't wait to buy the book and find out what happens.

How to Read Literature Like A Professor (Chapters 20-27)

Alright. So I have now successfully completed my first summer reading book, thanks to the hour at McDonalds where I had to wait for my mom since I got off work early. So after reading this something registered in my head. I think it was always theire but after Chapter 25: Don't Read With Your Eyes I realized something. Like I said before I read a lot (and I mean a lot) of books. What Chapter 25 taught me was that when your reading you sort of have to become the character. You can't read a story from your point of view because it's not your story, it's someone elses. Reading is like acting, you have to be the character. Another thing (just a small thing), which I'm not sure I mentioned in my previous post is that symbolism in a story is everywhere. Chapter 22: He's Blind For a Reason, You Know taught me thats it's everywhere. I knew this from my learnings in English Honors last year, but I understand now. You have to catch even the obvious because it plays a role in a story.

How To Read Literature Like A Professor (Chapters 1-20)

Okay. So I'm going to be totally honest. I picked up this book and I figured that it was going to be a complete sophisticated book in which I would have the worst time trying to get through. I. Was. Wrong. The critics were right the book is comical. Its easy to get through the book because the writer has tons of personality. I just got back from a weeks vacation in D.C. and reading this book on a 5 hour plane ride to-and-back home was at easy. So then let me get to why this book was actually pretty good. Again I'm going to be completely honest when I tell you I am a book worm. WARNING: To which ever teacher gets me next year I will always have a book at the ready. But in all the books that I read I never really stopped to analyze them. When I read this book I realized that by just catching main themes expressed throughout the story I can figure out the book before I'm halfway through. Another thing. The biblical or Shakespeare point is absolutly correct. Looking back on some of my favorite book series that I am still reading to this day I realize that they vary off of one of the two categories. Sometime they vary off of both. When I think about this, it bewilders me that I never figured any of this out before. The truth in this book is that its so obvious. Location in a book holds a meaning. Even a name is symbolic. You can't just go and write about a character and give him/her and name that pops into your head. No. It has to have a story to it. Everything has to. I think that at the end of the book everything has to just connect. This book has made me realize that.
