Mentoring Day with Manny

How am I doing?: I arrived at the Peninisula Family Services and met with Manny. From there we walked to a burger place to eat lunch. Once we were settled with delicious burgers we talked about the project. Manny gave me three book The Prophet by Kahlol Gibran, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra, and Staying Up, Up, Up in a Down, Down, Down World by Zig Ziglar. I believe these three books will be helpful in my project and on my research paper.

How am I doing?: Manny emailed and called me to confirm that we were still on for meeting up tomorrow. Which we are. He also emailed me where to meet and then told me that we can go to Jamba Juice to eat. I am very excited! I am eager to take a look at the books and to talk about how everything has been going. Also, I would love to know what Manny thinks about everything.
I can't wait!

Crestmoor Day #5

How am I doing?: I came in and once again all the kids were outside so I went to join them. I saw a large group of kids all running around playing a game. A group of kids were also playing tennis and were getting along great. When I went inside I joined the green table for snack and played along with them. Everybody got along fine with each other. The small normal bickers about tv shows were of course presented, but no one was judged they just were as they were.

How am I doing?: I emailed Manny and let him know that I was going on Spring Break soon and that this would be a perfect time for us to get together to chat. I gave him a couple of dates to choose from and let him know I look forward to seeing him.

How am I doing?: As I walked in to Crestmoor today there were not many kids inside so I went outside to hang outh with them. Outside a group of girls were playing together on a little slide and a boy with special needs came over to play with them. They invited him up with them and they all slid down together. This is another example of how everybody views each others as equals.

How am I doing?: I was able to talk to Manny for a few minutes. We talked about setting up a day to talk, or better yet meet up. I told Manny that, that sounded great and that I would be in touch on a day that would work out great.

How am I doing?: I thanked Manny for keeping me posted on everything he is up. I let him know that I understand that he is very busy at work and I appreciate him taking his time to mentor me. I also proposed that we come up with a time to talk on the phone or meet up.

How am I doing?: When I first walked in there was a bunch of kids who needed homework help. So I sat down at a table to guide them with fractions. When they were done I went ouside with them. When I got out there a couple of kids were complaining about a few comments another kid made to them. We took her to the side an told her what she was sayingwas wrong and not nice and the, had her apologize.

How am I doing?: I emailed Manny leting him know how sorry I was that we hadn't had a chance to talk in awhile. I let him know that I had contined to do my community service and that I was making my way to getting done with it. I also mentioned how now communication is also being used with myself in interacting with the children.

How am I doing?: When I walked into Crestmoor all the children were out of school. Some were on the playground and others were inside doing homework. I was told that today I would be inside helping them with homework. I sat down at a table and helped a boy who had a hard tie focusing finish his homework.

How am I doing?: I sent Manny an email following up on my progress with the volunteering. I went over how I watched communication take effect and how I even helped influcence some. I also asked to schedule a time talk. I said that anytime after 4pm is good for me.

How am I doing?: I arrive at Crestmoor at 1:45 to begin my volunteering. I met Miss Natasha, who introduced me to the few children who arrived. I spent time playing and interacting with them til the bigger kids were released from school. Once that happened kids with and without special needs arrived. I watched as one child with special needs played tennis with a child without it. They interacted perfectly.

How am I doing?: After school I earned a chance to talk with Manny for a few minutes. We went over how my project is going so far and I mentioned how I was going to begin volunteering on Wednesday. I told Manny that I would be in touch about how my project is going and let him know how the volunteering went.

How am I doing?: I arrived at the Peninsula Family Services building and met with my mento Manny. He began with giving me a tour of the building and telling me a little bit about what they do there. As we made our way to his office we talked about how he is in communications and how he uses this with counseling of other families. I took note that this could be greatly used in an early state of youth, where kids can autmoatically learn to accept each other by working together from the start. Manny also mentioned that he had some books for me to read to learn a little more about communication.

How am I doing?: I had a few minutes to chat with Manny for a few as a little introductory. In the conversation we introduced ourselves again. We also talked a little bit more about the grounds of the project and what we can do to fulfill those hours and make sure I get the most of his time. We ended the conversation by scheduling a time to meet on January 26.

How am I doing?: I am on the right track with my project. I have both a mentor and a community service location. I am really looking forward to learning from Mr. Chargualaf and know what he knows about communication. I really think that with his help I can better write my research paper to fulfill my project requirements. This project is going to rock! I am super excited to begin my hours!

Community Service

Next: I plan to go in to sign my papers to will allow me to volunteer there.
How am I doing?: I believe that by doing my community service hours at R.E.A.C.H. I will be able to better fulfil my project. The project works so close with my thesis for my project. The R.E.A.C.H. program is an after school day care program that combines children with and without special needs. It is through this program that all the children work together and accept each other for who they are. I am very excited to begin my hours there!

How am I doing?: I am doing extremely well with starting off my project. I found a mentor who works in communication, which is a big part of my project. With Mr. Chargualaf as my mentor I believe that I will receive the best mentoring possible. I hope that with Mr. Chargualaf as my mentor I will be able to do this project to the best of my ability with his guidance. This project is going to be great!
